Meet Tressa

What makes me different as a Pilates instructor is that I don’t come from a movement background. I’ve been a hairdresser all my life, so I have a lot pain in my body as a result. Pilates to me is medicine, and I approach it as a form of physical therapy. You’re not going to get a burnout method workout from me, as I focus more on the core principles and fundamentals…. I also really like to teach a lot of classical choreography, just with a contemporary flair that can also be tailored to help certain populations that are struggling with parts of their body that may need rehab. As a proud Xennial there’s a good chance I’ll give you a fun 80’s playlist or some 90’s R&B.

Tressa's Story

Tressa began her Pilates journey in 2002. After a few car accidents and a lot of standing working as a hairdresser, she was introduced to Pilates to remedy back pain. She found that strengthening our core and correcting our posture can give us so much more freedom to move however we like. The additional body awareness is super helpful in daily life and functional movement as well. Initially she practiced in a very classical style which she still loves to reference through her choices in choreography. After a few years of practice in NYC she found that all of the instructors she'd been loyally following were Kane school certified, so in 2018 she signed up to become one of them too. She favors really feel good workouts that include a lot of stretching. She likes to use movement to make people feel good, strong, open and empowered.
